AND THEN THERE WAS SILENCE
God Has Spoken.

Why Silence?
“But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.”
Habakkuk 2:20
Not Emptiness. Reverence.
The silence of And Then There Was Silence is not mystical emptiness, inward searching, or the absence of an answer. It is the silence that falls upon the creature when he remembers the Creator. God has spoken. His Word has weight. The proper posture of the soul is therefore not to invent another voice, but to hear.
The idol is silent because it has nothing to say. We become silent because the living God has spoken.
From Noise to Faithful Walking
Behold
Habakkuk begins by beholding grievance. God turns his gaze higher: “Behold… I will work a work.” The burden is real, but it is not ultimate. There is a throne above what we see.
Hear
Habakkuk takes his place to watch and hear. Biblical silence is the posture of a creature who recognizes that the Creator has spoken and that His Word must have the final word.
Walk
The quiet life before God is not escape from ordinary faithfulness. We hear His Word, truth shepherds the heart, and then we rise to walk by faith in what He has said.
Behold → Hear → Walk

God Has Spoken in His Son
“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son.”
Hebrews 1:1–2
The deepest answer to the noise is not merely quiet surroundings. It is Christ. God’s fullest revelation is His Son. The gospel brings the sinner from self-reliance to faith in Christ, and the believer continues to walk by that same faith.
The silence to which we are called is not inactivity, but the reverent posture of a heart ready to receive His Word.
And so we must ask ourselves:
Am I listening to what God has actually spoken?
Am I allowing His Word to correct my understanding?
Am I receiving His promises by faith?
Am I following the Son whom He has revealed?
The purpose of silence is not simply to become still, but to hear the Word of God, believe what He has spoken, and rise to walk in obedience to Him.
The River Beneath the Silence
God is glorifying His Son by redeeming a people for His name.
From Genesis to Revelation, God has not been silent. He reveals Himself, exposes the heart, gives His Son, shepherds His people by the Holy Spirit, and forms them to walk in ways that reflect His glory. Silence is not the end of the movement. Faithful walking is.
“Speak; for thy servant heareth.”
1 Samuel 3:10
Behold. Hear. Walk.
