The Faithfulness That Reached Every Household

“And next him were Eden, and Miniamin, and Jeshua, and Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah, in the cities of the priests, to distribute with fidelity to their brethren, both to the great and small.” 2 Chronicles 31:15

What Is Happening in the Passage

In this verse, God’s people had brought gifts and offerings to the temple. But the blessing didn’t stay there. Certain men—Eden, Miniamin, Jeshua, Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah—were chosen to carry God’s gifts to every family. They didn’t keep anything for themselves. They didn’t forget anyone. They made sure God’s care reached both the important people and the ordinary ones. God used their faithful hands to bless many homes.

Supportive Scripture: “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” 1 Corinthians 4:2

What This Teaches Us About God

God loves to send His goodness through people. He could do everything by Himself, but He chooses to let His kindness travel through the obedience of His servants. He sees every faithful heart, even those the world never notices. When God gives a blessing, He means for it to move—not to stop with one person, but to reach many.

Supportive Scripture: “The LORD is good to all: and His tender mercies are over all His works.” Psalm 145:9

How This Leads Us to Jesus

The greatest blessing God ever gave was His Son, Jesus. And just like the gifts in this passage were carried to every household, God wants the good news about Jesus to be carried to every heart. Jesus is the One who brings life, forgiveness, and hope. And God now lets His people share that message so others may know Him.

Supportive Scripture: “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Luke 19:10

What This Means for Our Hearts

God has given each of us something to carry—His love, His truth, His kindness, His Word. We are not meant to keep these things to ourselves. When we obey God, speak kindly, share His Word, or help someone in need, we become like those faithful men in the passage. God uses our small acts of faithfulness to bless others in ways we may never see.

Supportive Scripture: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

The Silence Before the Voice

There are moments in Scripture when all human sound is stilled, and the soul stands in the quiet before God. Job 4:16 describes such a moment: a silence not of emptiness, but of awe — the threshold where the creature is hushed and the Word draws near.
This site takes its name from that holy stillness: And then there was silence. The purpose of this place is simple: to lift the Word of God without distraction, without embellishment, and without the noise of self. Each devotional is written to bring the heart into that same posture of quiet reverence, where Scripture is allowed to speak with its own weight and Christ is seen in His own glory.
Here, the writer is hidden. The voice is not mine. The aim is not expression, but submission; not commentary, but clarity; not noise, but nearness. Silence is not the absence of sound — it is the clearing away of every lesser voice so that the Word may be heard.
If the Lord is pleased to use these meditations to still the heart, to draw the reader into the hush before His voice, and to turn the gaze toward Christ, then the purpose of this work is fulfilled.
And then there was silence — and the Word was lifted high.

Job 4:16 “It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,”
