The Faithful Distribution to the Priests

“And under him were Eden, and Miniamin, and Jeshua, and Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah, in the cities of the priests, in their set office, to give to their brethren by courses, as well to the great as to the small.” 2 Chronicles 31:15

What Is Happening in the Passage

God had blessed His people, and many priests needed to receive what God provided so they could serve Him well. To make sure everyone was cared for, several faithful men—Eden, Miniamin, Jeshua, Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah—worked together in their assigned places. Their job was to give out the gifts fairly, making sure every priest received what he needed, “as well to the great as to the small.” No one was forgotten. No one was left out.

Supportive Scripture:
“For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations.” Psalm 100:5

What This Teaches Us About God

God cares for all His people equally. He does not treat some as more important than others. He provides for everyone with the same love and kindness. And He uses many different people to help carry out His work. These men served quietly, but God saw them. He values fairness, honesty, and steady hearts in every task, big or small.

Supportive Scripture:
“The word of the LORD is right; and all His works are done in truth.” Psalm 33:4

How This Leads Us to Jesus

These faithful men remind us of Jesus, who gives His grace to all His people. He knows exactly what each person needs. Jesus is the Good Shepherd who cares for every sheep, not just the ones who seem important. He gives strength, help, and hope to all who come to Him. Everything we receive from God comes through Him.

Supportive Scripture:
“I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth His life for the sheep.” John 10:11

What This Means for Our Hearts

God wants us to be faithful right where we are. We don’t need a special title or a big job to serve Him. We just need to be willing to do what is right—sharing, helping, being fair, and doing our work with a good heart. When we serve quietly and kindly, God sees it. He remembers it. And He delights in it.

Supportive Scripture:
“Trust in the LORD, and do good.” Psalm 37:3

The Silence Before the Voice

There are moments in Scripture when all human sound is stilled, and the soul stands in the quiet before God. Job 4:16 describes such a moment: a silence not of emptiness, but of awe — the threshold where the creature is hushed and the Word draws near.
This site takes its name from that holy stillness: And then there was silence. The purpose of this place is simple: to lift the Word of God without distraction, without embellishment, and without the noise of self. Each devotional is written to bring the heart into that same posture of quiet reverence, where Scripture is allowed to speak with its own weight and Christ is seen in His own glory.
Here, the writer is hidden. The voice is not mine. The aim is not expression, but submission; not commentary, but clarity; not noise, but nearness. Silence is not the absence of sound — it is the clearing away of every lesser voice so that the Word may be heard.
If the Lord is pleased to use these meditations to still the heart, to draw the reader into the hush before His voice, and to turn the gaze toward Christ, then the purpose of this work is fulfilled.
And then there was silence — and the Word was lifted high.

Job 4:16 “It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,”
