✦ Golden Insight
“The truth at the heart of this verse”
“Discretion is not caution born of fear — it is wisdom made instinct by long fellowship with God.”

✦ Frame of Silver
“The context and setting that shapes its meaning”
There is a kind of keeping that comes from the outside — walls, locks, watchmen — and there is a keeping that comes from the inside. Solomon speaks of this second kind. When a man has walked long with wisdom, something forms within him: a quiet discernment that reads a room, senses a snare, hesitates before a door that should not be opened. This is discretion — not timidity, but trained perception. It is the fruit of a mind shaped by the Word of God and the fellowship of His Spirit. The man who has it is kept, not because nothing threatens him, but because he sees the threat before it reaches him.

✦ Fruit of Christ
“How this truth bears fruit in a life following Christ”
Christ is the full treasury of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:3), and in Him discretion finds its perfect form. To walk near to Him is to have your instincts slowly sanctified — to begin seeing what He sees, fearing what He warns against, loving what He loves. The keeping He provides is not only from without but from within, by His Spirit who leads us into all truth.
